Pause and Observe
Note location, habitat, weather, time, size, shape, movement, voice, behavior, nearby species, and the distance from which the observation is made.
Identify Carefully
Compare field marks, structure, sound, season, range, habitat, behavior, similar species, and any features that remain uncertain.
Make a Useful Note
Record direct observations first, then possible interpretation, photographs or sketches, questions, location sensitivity, and later confirmation.
Discuss and Protect
Share findings responsibly, invite correction, protect nesting sites and sensitive locations, review patterns, and return with better questions.
